Yemen: Floods Emergency Appeal No. MDRYE014 [EN/AR]

Urgent Need for Aid

The International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent (RC) has launched an emergency appeal for 3.2 million Swiss francs to support the Yemen Red Crescent Society's (YRCS) response to the devastating floods that have affected 14 governorates across the country.

The appeal aims to reach 350,000 people with life-saving assistance, including shelter, water, sanitation, and healthcare.

Dire Situation

Heavy rainfall and flash floods since mid-July have caused severe damage to homes, infrastructure, and livelihoods.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), over 120,000 people have been displaced from their homes, and more than 170,000 are in need of shelter assistance.

The floods have also damaged vital water and sanitation infrastructure, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases.

YRCS Response

The YRCS has mobilized its volunteers and staff to distribute emergency relief items, such as food, blankets, and hygiene kits.

Volunteers are also working to clean up debris, restore water and sanitation systems, and provide medical assistance.

Need for Support

The IFRC's emergency appeal is crucial to ensure that the YRCS can continue to provide life-saving assistance.

The appeal will support the following activities:

  • Distributing shelter materials and household items
  • Installing water purification systems and latrines
  • Providing medical assistance and psychological support
  • Restoring livelihoods and providing cash assistance
